PanShiBo Posted May 30, 2011 at 03:58 AM Report Posted May 30, 2011 at 03:58 AM I hold Canadian passport, new rules only allow max two month Chinese tourist visa. I am in Inner Mongolia now, and plan to travel in China for next six months, so need to know how to extend my tourist visa. Is it the best way to exit to Hong Kong and extend visa there? Thanks a lot! Quote
Lost in Mong Kok Posted May 30, 2011 at 06:31 AM Report Posted May 30, 2011 at 06:31 AM I'm not certain as Inner Mongolia is a SAR, but it is likely you will have to leave China to renew your visa, therefore the choice is probably either Hong Kong, where you can get it from the China Foreign Ministry or from Canada. In Hong Kong you can get the speed service which is about 24 hours. If you've already had a Chinese visa in the past it shouldn't be a problem to get a second one. Without a Hong Kong ID you won't be getting a 6 month visa, and I'm not even certain how long a standard visa entitles you to stay in China. 2 months even seems a bit long. According to the Foreign Ministry "If extension of the duration of stay is needed, application should be made at local public security authorities before visa expires", so you could try and find your local office and ask if they can extend it.
