kala Posted June 9, 2011 at 12:27 PM Report Posted June 9, 2011 at 12:27 PM Any orienteers here? Any orienteer there - in China, I mean? For those of you who are not familiar with the sport of orienteering, here's a quote from Wikipedia: "a sport that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points." Orienteering is hugely popular in Northern Europe (I'm from Finland) and also widely practiced in Russia and Central Europe. The Chinese and Hong Kong team can also be seen at the World Championship events, usually finishing last ;-) Orienteering is featured in the World Games (not the Olympics yet). Anyway, has anyone tried orienteering in China? I'd love to take part in an event the next time I'm there. I know there's a Chinese Orienteering Association which might also be able to help but I thought I'd check here too. Quote
gerri Posted June 18, 2011 at 01:20 PM Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 01:20 PM I've seen some students here (Xiangtan, Hunan) engage in something that looked very much like orienteering, so I'm assuming it is around... kinda ;-) Quote
