Ian_Lee Posted December 10, 2004 at 07:07 PM Report Posted December 10, 2004 at 07:07 PM Has anybody watched the 54th Miss World Pageant held in Sanya, Hainan Island last weekend (I didn't watch it)? This event was very special because: (1) This is the first time that the Pageant was held on the same venue two years on a row. More surprisingly, the organizer announced that the Pageant will be held again in Sanya next year. Last year Sanya paid US$4.8 million for the event, but this year they pay nothing and next year they will also pay nothing. It seems that after being scared off by the mishaps two years ago in Nigeria, the organizer has fallen in love with China. Now it seems that other than a production base, China starts to become a base for show business. (2) This is the most democratic Miss World Pageant ever held. The outcome was decided by global voters who chose the winner by internet, long distance phone call and text message. Massive volumes of messages rushed into Sanya and the voting deadline was half hour before the announcement. (3) It seems that this Pageant is very clean. Miss Peru was crowned with Miss Dominician awarded the first runner-up and Miss USA the second runner up. Miss China was elminated early and could not even enter the Final 15. (4) Far from the Mao era, now CCP does not mind bikini-clad girls parading before the 1 billion TV audience (I guess CCTV must have broadcasted the event). In the long run, will such event change the mindset of Chinese -- i.e. considering girls with big boobs and butt as beaurty? Quote
