New Members weshdim Posted June 15, 2011 at 01:38 AM New Members Report Share Posted June 15, 2011 at 01:38 AM Friends, I came across this sentence: 我得先把上次借的书还了。 Can someone help with the meaning? I believe it roughly translates as, "I must first ??? borrowed book give-back. However the part with 先把上次 has me confused. Your help much appreciated. googed Posted June 15, 2011 at 04:50 PM Report Share Posted June 15, 2011 at 04:50 PM A rough (literal) translation would be: I must first take the last time's borrowed book back. The "把" in the sentence refers to the act of taking the "上次借的书" and returning it ("还了"; pronounced here as huan4 le)
jbradfor Posted June 15, 2011 at 07:13 PM Report Share Posted June 15, 2011 at 07:13 PM I would parse it as 我得先 把上次借的书 还了 In bad English: I must first (take) the previously borrowed book return. Look up the use of 把.
