Haiping Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:15 AM Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:15 AM I was just wondering what you know about it? Has anyone joined? I actually tried just for the heck of it but couldn't manage. Haiping Quote
WestTexas Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:31 AM Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:31 AM I haven't tried it, but from talking with people about it, I think it's definitely nowhere near as popular as Facebook is in the US. In fact, I have a lot of Chinese friends and while they have all heard of it none of them have mentioned having an account. QQ is much, much more popular. There is a QQ Zone, similar to Facebook, that some QQ users frequent. The majority of people I know on QQ have a profile on QQ Zone but don't seem to use it a lot. A few of them update their status/message board thing several times a day though. Quote
Haiping Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:48 AM Author Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 12:48 AM Tell me more about QQ. Is it really similar to Facebook? Quote
Iriya Posted June 18, 2011 at 06:56 AM Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 06:56 AM 人人网 is mostly for students to keep in touch, so it's not really like Facebook. The people who already have a job usually use 开心网. QQ is an instant messenger, similar to ICQ/MSN/etc. QQ Zone/空间 is very much like MySpace. QQ is immensely popular, pretty much any Chinese person under 40 has a QQ number. QQ is available on mobile phones, so many Chinese people are on QQ 24/7. Quote
haohaohao Posted June 18, 2011 at 06:53 PM Report Posted June 18, 2011 at 06:53 PM Its like facebook, almost, but with themes for your profile and many many MANY apps. I'll be going to BLCU this September, already joined 人人 Quote
yialanliu Posted June 19, 2011 at 03:48 AM Report Posted June 19, 2011 at 03:48 AM I use renren(xiaonei) and QQ. Renren is very similar to facebook and yes, it is has a ton of students since their historical name was 校内。 QQ is used by everyone. I used it for business as well for talking with clients when I had a job and stuff. Quote
Matty Posted June 29, 2011 at 12:44 AM Report Posted June 29, 2011 at 12:44 AM Almost everyone I know uses QQ, even those who have graduated, Kaixin001 I feel will die out over time, though really it's 1 company, maybe they'll be able to combine them. Quote
Loriquero Posted June 30, 2011 at 12:46 AM Report Posted June 30, 2011 at 12:46 AM from what I have noticed: People under 24 years old: 人人 People over 24 years old: 开心。 But looks like the trend is joining 新浪微博。 Quote
