Getting a Z-Visa (Work) without going back to home country

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Z-Visas? I currently work in China on an F visa, but next year my company wants to get me a Z visa. My question is, do I have to return to my home country to acquire this visa or can I just go to the Chinese consulate in Hong Kong? I was told at the beginning of the year that I just needed to leave the country and Hong Kong would do, in my stupidity I believed they knew what they were doing... Now, I am being told I need to return home.

Thanks for your help.

I would like to know the answer too.

Right now I'm in China with Student visa and will continue my studies in September with a new Student visa. But for July and August I managed to find a job. But now they said that they can't give the job to me because I don't have the Work vica Z and in order to have it I must go back to my home country which would be too much trouble and money. But is it really so that I can't get the Z visa to China from Hong Kong?

I found the website of The Commissioner's Office of China's Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR. I found the requirements and advice for applying the Z visa so is it possible to get the Z visa to China from Hong Kong or is the information wrong?

You can get your Z-Visa in Hong Kong, if the paper work your school provides you with (a particular form) states you need to apply for it in Hong Kong. I don't recall the name of that piece of paper, but if it doesn't say Hong Kong, they will refuse.

Yes, you can - however it would be kind of unusual for a company to go to the hassle and expense of doing that just for a couple of months.

Thank you Matty and roddy! I guess they just didn't want to tell me the real reason.

The real reason might be that it's too much money and trouble for them to get the paperwork for a z-visa.

I'm a little confused, I don't see where he said that he'd only be staying for a few months.

"next year my company wants to get me a Z visa"

They want him to get a Z visa next year, which sounds to me as if perhaps his F Visa can't be extended anymore and they've decided to go legal. Not disregarding the possibility I'm missing something, but it just sounds like the school doesn't quite know what they're doing. Many people have trouble getting their Z Visa processed in Hong Kong, but that's only because their paper work is not correct in indicating that they must apply for their visa in Hong Kong.

But don't forget the most important the invitation documentation from the government MUST indicate that you should apply for your visa in Hong Kong.

Matty, I think roddy answered for me because my job would have been just two months.

That makes a whole lot more sense now, I forgot there was a second question.

Thanks for clearing that up! ^^
