akdn Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:54 PM Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:54 PM Well, I'm no expert, I'm afraid. I guess that each individual character needs to be interpreted based on their 'Book-of-Changes-meaning'. And then some kind of overall meaning derived from that... I just found out that the 离 represents 'fire', and so I did a search using 'Fire, Book of Change', and this came up. Any use? http://afpc.asso.fr/wengu/wg/wengu.php?l=Yijing&no=30 Quote
Dina Posted October 22, 2003 at 02:32 PM Author Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 02:32 PM Ok but how can I translate this 九紫 I do have any trace abou how could be can you help me? Thanks Dina Quote
skylee Posted October 22, 2003 at 02:55 PM Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 02:55 PM Since you mentioned 离卦, then I guess it is something about fengshui or bagua. According to this website and this website, "九紫" is a "星名" (starname). It corresponds to "离卦", "正南" (south), and "火" (fire). I don't know how to translate it though. Quote
skylee Posted October 22, 2003 at 03:16 PM Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 03:16 PM Looks like some people do translate it into "nine purple". Take a look at the "Russia" secton of this webpage. Quote

Take a look at the "Russia" secton of this webpage[/url']. i looked up by google, then i found this page http://www.zhouyi27.com/f21.htm but i m afraid nobody of u could understand it, bcoz lots of chinese couldnt understand it neither, unless specialised it. (actually almost all today's chinese dont believe feng shui (or feng sui) yeah, they translated it to nine purple, its a star, so called "you bi xing" it belong fire of the " wu xing", could show u the fortune of ceremony(wedding, engagement, birthday party and so on) or fortune of love. 九紫右弼星:五行属火,主嘉庆、桃花。 u d better give it up, its not practical, especially for foreigner. actually its archaic chinese. Guest fodun Posted November 25, 2003 at 09:31 AM Report Posted November 25, 2003 at 09:31 AM 九紫 just the name of Chinese constellation. 九 is serial number, and 紫 is the name. There have 9 constellations in China, not similar to western. These constellations include 一白、二黑、三碧、四绿、五黄、六白、七赤、八白、九紫。 Quote
trien27 Posted February 1, 2010 at 12:25 AM Report Posted February 1, 2010 at 12:25 AM (edited) 九紫 just the name of Chinese constellation. 九 is serial number, and 紫 is the name. There have 9 constellations in China, not similar to western. These constellations include 一白、二黑、三碧、四绿、五黄、六白、七赤、八白、九紫。 一、二、三、四、五、六、七、八、九。are nine of the numbers which is the basis for the "magic square" or in Chinese called "Luo shu", and 白 are for the numbers 一、六 & 八. 黑 is for 二, 碧 is for 三, 绿 is for 四, 黄 is for 五, 赤 is for 七,紫 is for 九. Each of these numbers & colors are related to the directions & what each direction is supposedly characterized by each color in Fengshui, and geomancy. There's 9 numbers because it's "each direction for the bagua [4 compass directions: East, West, North & South plus Northeast, Southeast, Northwest & Northeast]" + the center. In one version of the Bagua, purple stands for the southeast. They are not constellations: They are called "九曲飛星" or "9 Flying stars", if you translated it somewhat literally. "九曲飛星" are used in divination, geomancy & fengshui. There are 28 Chinese constellations: 二十八星宿, where 12 of them are what's being used as "The Chinese zodiacal animals".
