imron Posted June 27, 2011 at 05:34 AM Report Posted June 27, 2011 at 05:34 AM Surely you shouldn't need tunneling or OpenVPN for this - most email providers these days should have SSL support for IMAP and/or POP. Quote
gato Posted June 27, 2011 at 05:57 AM Report Posted June 27, 2011 at 05:57 AM Or Outlook Web Access. Quote
sthubbar Posted June 27, 2011 at 06:20 AM Author Report Posted June 27, 2011 at 06:20 AM imron, I think you forgot that this is behind a corporate proxy. No port 993 or 465 has access to the outside world. gato, Web access is out of the question because of usability issues. I currently have 3 different email accounts and I can receive an email from any account and easily respond from from any of the other accounts by simply changing the "From" field. Not an option with Web access. Quote
imron Posted June 27, 2011 at 07:11 AM Report Posted June 27, 2011 at 07:11 AM Yes, I had forgotten that this is no longer about the Great Firewall of China. I guess you had best take it up with your sys admins to explain why you need this access during work hours then. Quote
sthubbar Posted June 28, 2011 at 08:51 AM Author Report Posted June 28, 2011 at 08:51 AM imron, I think I have found a more feature rich and China specific Proxy plugin for Firefox. AutoProxy This plugin seems to do exactly what I had been dreaming about. It automagically selects to proxy content based on URL. It even seems to switch proxies within a web page, so some content on a web page can use one proxy, other a second, and even other a third, all within one web page. Seems like the perfect solution and they have a huge list of China specific sites already configured. Might be worth you checking out. Quote
imron Posted June 28, 2011 at 12:34 PM Report Posted June 28, 2011 at 12:34 PM I've tried other proxy plugins before, but they all offer far more complexity than I need. My proxy needs are pretty simple, so typically I'll either want proxy on or proxy off and multiproxy works just great for this. Will keep the suggestion in mind however. Quote
imron Posted September 16, 2014 at 06:19 AM Report Posted September 16, 2014 at 06:19 AM *bump* I am wondering if it would be possible to get a VPN or similar that is hosted in Australia so that from China Probably not relevant for you any more, but posting for future readers. Binary Lane offers Australian based servers from AUD$5 a month. Quote

imron Posted September 16, 2014 at 06:51 AM Report Posted September 16, 2014 at 06:51 AM I've not used it personally, but it seems to be very similar to Digital Ocean. Quote
