meang Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:08 PM Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:08 PM This may be a daft question and may be the wrong forum for it, but does anyone know how much a non pirated music cd would cost here in Beijing. I've purchased a variety of cd's here ranging from 4-30RMB here and I've noticed that as you move towards the higher end of that range the cd doesn't contain any of the "bonus" songs that you would find on the cheaper cd's. Would be great if anyone knew what the answer was and knew of any music superstores in Beijing Cheers Quote
roddy Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:14 PM Report Posted October 22, 2003 at 01:14 PM The only time I've bought a non-pirated CD in China was about 2 years ago for a present. That cost me 96Y, if I remember correctly. As far as I know, there aren't any music superstores like Virgin or HMV (those are the UK ones I can think of, anyway) - the competition from the pirated stuff is presumably too harsh. Department stores and bookshops usually have an audio-visual section which will have some stuff - but the selection is usually pretty poor. Some of the DVD/CD shops on Xinjiekou ( walk south from Jishuitan subway) have small 'imported' sections where you can get genuine imported music, some on vinyl - prices start around 100Y I think. chengdude Posted October 28, 2003 at 08:24 PM Report Posted October 28, 2003 at 08:24 PM Authentic CD's start at around 80-90 RMB and go up to around 150 or so, typically for Deutsche Grammophone products (perhaps not ironically, DG is one of the most heavily pirated labels). Other places to try are higher-end audio equipment shops; I've been to several (although not in BJ) that also sell legit CD's to accompany your beautiful new imported gear. Quote
