ala Posted December 12, 2004 at 08:23 AM Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 at 08:23 AM Original Cantonese song. You know how much I love you Don t ask me why our passion has gone away You left me here with all my fear just all alone Look at my tears Where s your love Quote
Quest Posted December 12, 2004 at 07:44 PM Report Posted December 12, 2004 at 07:44 PM I think you posted the song in another thread before, interesting, but many lines are different, it's hard to run a parallel comparison. The female sounded like the girl in that other 桂林话 song. Quote
ala Posted December 12, 2004 at 11:11 PM Author Report Posted December 12, 2004 at 11:11 PM with lyrics now though... The parts where lyrics have changed are areas that are difficult to articulate in the Shanghainese. It's also interesting that since both Cantonese and Shanghainese have Rusheng (short staccato rhymes), Shanghainese singers should be more aware of how Rusheng is used in Cantonese, and most songs transcribed from Cantonese to Shanghainese would sound fairly natural and fluid because Cantonese lyrics have already taken into account of Rusheng rhymes. Guest Roderic Posted December 18, 2004 at 04:02 PM Report Posted December 18, 2004 at 04:02 PM But how common today to sing in Shanghaiese? I doubt, apart from canto-pop and 時代曲 (originated in Beijing, boomed in Shanghai before 1949, but sung in Mandarin), will there be a real Shanghai-pop? --------------------------------------- Omnipotent Big Brother in Charge http://chinese-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2894&start=20 Quote
gato Posted December 18, 2004 at 05:00 PM Report Posted December 18, 2004 at 05:00 PM Brilliant! I'm surprised that it actually kinda works. They should keep at it. I'd guess that rap would sound better in Shanghainese than Mandarin -- it allows for more slurs -- but singing would sound better in Mandarin. Is that why the singing part is in Mandarin? Quote
