xkfow Posted July 6, 2011 at 01:51 AM Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 at 01:51 AM Hi Guys, I am finding the early PAVC stuff fairly easy. I am trying to burn through the PAVC books to find where I am up to in terms of skill level. So far I am putting almost every sentence into Anki. Interested in the opinion of anyone who has done PAVC. Do I need to bother with the sentences from the extra material for each lesson or can I safely skip it? Each lesson has about 10-20 sentences, but there are another 30-40 on top of that in practice material.
Meng Lelan Posted July 6, 2011 at 02:39 AM Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 at 02:39 AM Are you going through the new edition of PAVC?
xkfow Posted July 6, 2011 at 03:20 AM Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 at 03:20 AM Using the new editions, so far only up to Book 1, lesson 6. I would love to be able to ditch the extra mateiral in favour of speeding things along, however im not sure if practicing the extra material is ultimately going to slow me down in the later books. Do you understand these sentences completely, including all vocab and grammar patterns? If so then skip, otherwise don't skip.
xkfow Posted July 6, 2011 at 03:50 AM Author Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 at 03:50 AM I can read 95% of the words, but don't understand most of the grammar points, but I blame that on the book not explaining it that well. In my opinion they really do need to be supplemented by someone who can help make clear what the grammar sections are trying to say.
imron Posted July 6, 2011 at 04:07 AM Report Share Posted July 6, 2011 at 04:07 AM Well then, considering you are trying to find out your skill level, I would say your skill level stops where you can't understand most of the sentences. No point being able to say "I'm up to book X of series Y" if you can't understand example material from the books at that level. Sooner or later you're going to have to learn them anyway, so might as well be sooner rather than later.
