Hey everyone,

at least I would translate this with 报复, but I am not sure how to do it. Basically I want to know how to translate the following into Chinese.

A avenged himself on(/took revenge on) B for doing......

I can only come up with a translation like this, seperating the sentence into two in Chinese:

(因为)B上了A的心,A报复了B.

Also I am not sure whether using 因为 is a little too much here, would it emphasize cause and effect too much here?

Thanks for the help.

A avenged himself on(/took revenge on) B for doing sth.

(因为)B上了A的心,A报复了B.

I suppose you mean“B伤了A的心" by "B上了A的心".

Using "因为" or not, your translation is right. But it's not necessary to seperate the sentence into two. For the sake of being concise; you can try this:

A因某事报复了B

Is this pattern A报复(了)B common?

Personally I would use A 向B(作出 / 進行)報復.

I think that is common. I found 29,900,000 and 33,000,000 results by google for "报复我" and "向我报复", respectively.

Yes it's better to separate the sentence into two.

and "因为" is sometimes necessary.

Replacing one of the names by pronoun makes it sound better.

因为B伤了A的心,A报复了他。(If you don't use 因为 here, the sentence will be weird.)

and you can say:

因为B伤了A的心,A对他进行了报复。

or:

A报复了B,因为B伤了他的心。(You have to use 因为 here because the cause is after the effect.)
