kdavid Posted July 15, 2011 at 07:39 AM Report Posted July 15, 2011 at 07:39 AM I've received the CSC scholarship. The acceptance package included the JW201 for a student visa. I'm already in China and have a resident permit issued through my employer. Will I be breaking some Chinese mandate by studying on my current resident permit? The acceptance letter says I must apply for an F or X visa by submitting xyz documents... 并于2011年8月25日至8月27日期间,到黑龙江大学报到。如因故不能按期报到,必须事先征得我校同意。否则,将视为自动放弃入学资格。 And then at the bottom is says... 请您一定特来华学习(F)或 (X)签证入境。否则,一切后果由本人自负。 I understand that these documents are sent to everyone, and that most new students will not already be in China with a resident permit. I'm assuming the “一切后果” are likely exiting and re-entering on a suitable visa. My main questions is: Does anyone who has received the CSC scholarship have any experience being in China on a resident permit not issued by their host institution? If so, is this a big deal? I have half a mind to not mention anything to the school about my visa in fear that they'll flip out as it does not conform with the paperwork to the letter. I, of course, will register as outlined. I just won't have their visa/resident permit. Quote
roddy Posted July 15, 2011 at 11:09 AM Report Posted July 15, 2011 at 11:09 AM It's an unusual one, though it has come up before. Basically this kind of situation falls through the visa cracks. I'd say it makes more sense to be on the work permit, but you may need to argue the point with the university. I'd ask them about it - they're going to spot it at registration anyway. Can't see that being on a CSC scholarship is relevant. Quote
