Ian_Lee Posted December 22, 2004 at 12:16 AM Author Report Posted December 22, 2004 at 12:16 AM I am not 咸湿. But apparently our great poet Mr. Su was very conservative. All he thought of was "missionary position": 一樹梨花壓海棠 But can a 82-yr old folk like Dr. Yang physically handle such posture? I wonder. Most likely it would be: 一萼海棠踞梨樹 Quote
bhchao Posted December 22, 2004 at 05:23 AM Report Posted December 22, 2004 at 05:23 AM Just out of curiosity, by what name do you guys prefer to call our great poet? Do you prefer 蘇軾or 蘇東坡? Quote
skylee Posted December 22, 2004 at 06:02 AM Report Posted December 22, 2004 at 06:02 AM When I was a kid I only knew about 蘇東坡. I didn't get to know about his real name until I was at middle school. I think 東坡 is nice, reminds me of the greasy pork dish. Some artists' 字 are more well-known than their names (e.g. 曹雪芹 vs 曹霑), some are the other way around (e.g. 杜甫 vs his 字 - 子美 aka Jimmy ). This has gotten very far from the original topic now. Quote
badboy Posted December 30, 2004 at 02:51 AM Report Posted December 30, 2004 at 02:51 AM Personally I think she needs to get her head checked. He may die anyday given his old age. Unless there was a very good reason to marry him even though he is at the twilight of his life. There was - his money. I mean let's be honest, that's the only possible reason here. One big part of marriage is the sexual aspect, and to have a steady supply of it. But there's no way that comes into play here. I wonder if this guy has kids...and what they think seeing their inheritance go down the drain... Quote
yonglan Posted December 30, 2004 at 03:53 AM Report Posted December 30, 2004 at 03:53 AM Why would a young girl marry such an old man?? Is he very rich, or what? A woman marry for money? I'm not cynical enough to believe that. no matter how old he is' date=' how young she is, it is none of our business whether they would marry or not.anyway, wish them happy ever after![/quote'] Yes! I can't wait to marry a 19 year old girl in China when I'm 91. I'll just go to one of those SEZs (Special Elderly Zones) in Guangdong province and get myself a young pioneer like Miss Weng. Didn't realize till just now that I'm a confucian. IMHO The couple will most likely have a sexless life. Personally I feel it is kind of perverted to have sex with a girl who can be my grand granddaughter. One man's perversion is another man's fun. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted January 6, 2005 at 01:06 AM Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 at 01:06 AM One important point that was overlooked in the discussion is that the new bride, Ms. Weng, might just pity the old widower, Dr. Yang, and wanted to take care of him for the rest of his life. According to PRC law, if they didn't get married, they might be arrested by public security if they stay in a hotel room together (especially in the cities in Guangdong). Facing such dilemma, Ms. Weng might opt to get a marriage certificate so that she can legally take care of him. Quote
blackadder Posted January 8, 2005 at 05:39 PM Report Posted January 8, 2005 at 05:39 PM I don't think that's the case, anyways. Quote

Unless there was a very good reason to marry him even though he is at the twilight of his life. There was - his money. , Badboy, your words remind me of such a story in a book named 'the Recall in the Three Kingdoms " (《三国志》in Chinese). Please check it below: 时天旱禁酒,酿者有刑。吏于人家索得酿具,论者欲令与作酒者同罚。雍与先主游观,见一男(女)[子]行道,谓先主曰:“彼人欲行淫,何以不缚?”先主曰:“卿何以知之?”雍对曰:“彼有其具,与欲酿者同。”先主大笑,而原欲酿者。(摘自《三国志》——《许麋孙简伊秦传》) Translation: There was drought at that time and wine-making was banned to save water, so people must be sentenced for making wine。Some officers searched out some wine-making tools in someone’s house and wanted to sentence him with the same crime as those making wine. One day, Mr. Jian yong(简雍) went out with his master Mr.Liu bei(刘备), seeing some man walking on the street. Mr. Jian told Master Liu, “ This one is going to rape a woman. Why don't you make an order to catch him?” Master Liu asked, “How do you know that?” Mr. Jian said, “He has got 'the tool for criminal purpose作案工具' ” , (so he must be sentenced to the same crime as those who committed a rape,) and it is the same as that one kept the wine-making tools in his house.” Master Liu laughed out loudly! Then he released that man with wine-making tools in his house. I mean let's be honest, that's the only possible reason here. Well, to be honest, even a suspect is innocent before there is some evidence to prove that he has committed a crime in the court. I think it is the common sense in the West, right? Just for fun and kidding! No offensive purpose included! Quote
HashiriKata Posted January 24, 2005 at 11:20 AM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 11:20 AM Dear all, I'm Dr Yang. I only wish to say thank you to many of you for your great interest in my marital affair, and for reading my mind as well as my fiancé's on our behalf. I'm so grateful to you all for bringing me to sudden fame due solely to my proposed marriage, and for demonstrating so convincingly on the other hand that my life's pursuit in physics, and my Nobel prize as a consequence, are nothing but a waste of time. Yours truthfully, Dr CN Yang (aka HashiriKata) Quote
skylee Posted January 24, 2005 at 01:27 PM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 01:27 PM Judging from his very graceful response, Dr CN Yang (aka HashiriKata) is getting happier and happier (aka 輕佻) these days. Quote
HashiriKata Posted January 24, 2005 at 02:45 PM Report Posted January 24, 2005 at 02:45 PM Dear skylee, Dr CN Yang (aka HashiriKata) is getting happier and happier (aka 輕佻) these days. I'll convey your statement to my soon-to-be Mrs Yang so that she will appreciate what she's done. Best wishes, Dr Yang Quote
badboy Posted January 25, 2005 at 02:48 AM Report Posted January 25, 2005 at 02:48 AM Well, to be honest even a suspect is innocent before there is some evidence to prove that he has committed a crime in the court. I think it is the common sense in the West, right? Nope. If one has committed a crime, they are guilty at the time of committing the crime...n'est pas? Quote
