Liebkuchen Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:26 PM Report Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:26 PM Will be applying for Z visa at the Consulate in Edinburgh. Do they demand the original work permit and invitation letter, or are scans okay? There's nothing explicitly specified on their website. Thanks! Quote
m000gle Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:51 PM Report Posted July 17, 2011 at 07:51 PM I would personally err on the side of caution and bring the original, unless there are extenuating circumstances making this impossible. That said, I have seen multiple universities send admission notices via email. If those were valid, maybe scanned documents for work would be too... Quote
imron Posted July 17, 2011 at 10:53 PM Report Posted July 17, 2011 at 10:53 PM Make photocopies and give them that. You may find you will need the originals in China. Edit: It may be a good idea to bring the originals so they can see them if they want, but only hand over photocopies, as what you hand over you won't be getting back. Learnt this the hard way with a JW202 form. 1 Quote
liuzhou Posted July 18, 2011 at 03:54 AM Report Posted July 18, 2011 at 03:54 AM I've used scans in Edinburgh in the past. They did ask where the originals were and I (honestly) answered "In China". They accepted that. Quote
Liebkuchen Posted July 18, 2011 at 10:27 AM Author Report Posted July 18, 2011 at 10:27 AM Ta. I'll confirm directly with the consulate since its a daytrip with an appointment so a pain if I don't bring the right thing. But sounds positive re:scans... Quote
geeness Posted July 19, 2011 at 08:28 PM Report Posted July 19, 2011 at 08:28 PM The Edinburgh ladies in the consulate are rather nice, if a little stoney faced. Take anything you can, just in case. The application form changed recently from two to four pages. The old one was still accepted until June, but you've missed that. The new one asks rather intrusive questions about all family members, telephone numbers and email addresses, as well as occupations. I left most blank and denies the existence of brothers and sisters. I don't trust any governmental body, nevermind the Chinese. Otherwise, the consulate itself is good, and easily accessible by bus and car, with Haymarket train station 2 miles away. They also allow someone else to pick up your passport freely, as long as said person possesses the pick-up ticket. Quote
Lu Posted July 21, 2011 at 02:02 PM Report Posted July 21, 2011 at 02:02 PM Yes, bring everything you have (paperwork, vaccination books, etc etc) and double copies of everything too. Try to keep the originals. Quote
Liebkuchen Posted July 22, 2011 at 10:43 AM Author Report Posted July 22, 2011 at 10:43 AM Thanks, everyone. The paperwork in China is coming along more quickly than expected (my contact must have good guanxi) so I should have the originals in my possession in enough time to get it all sorted. I saw the new application form! Good grief! Might 'forget' about my own siblings. One has a defence background which they really don't need to know about... Quote
