renzhe Posted July 22, 2011 at 11:30 AM Report Posted July 22, 2011 at 11:30 AM I'm afraid not. "辣" is a noun here, short for "辣的XX". Haven't you heard the famous joke "江西人不怕辣,湖南人辣不怕,四川人怕不辣"? http://z.baidu.com/question/33648341.html?fr=qrl&cid=206&index=5 Quote
Peter2010 Posted July 22, 2011 at 12:15 PM Report Posted July 22, 2011 at 12:15 PM @renzhe of couse, I heard of that joke. I guess I did not make myself clear. "我怕辣" is no problem, but "辣" here is a noun, not a adj. ("辣"could be either a noun or adj.). So 怕 (pà)+ adj. is grammatically wrong. Note that "怕" is a verb here. 1 Quote
renzhe Posted July 22, 2011 at 12:59 PM Report Posted July 22, 2011 at 12:59 PM It's a bit complicated, since 辣 is actually a stative verb, which takes the roles of adjectives in Indo-European languages. So strictly speaking, it's neither adjective, nor noun Quote
