dolcegabbana Posted July 24, 2011 at 03:00 AM Report Share Posted July 24, 2011 at 03:00 AM Hello, First of all I just wanted to say that this forum is awesome! I've learned so many useful tips from this website and it is a wonderful resource for students learning chinese. I have 3 short pages of a sailor moon comic that I need translated. I have tried to do it myself, but the resolution isn't that great and I can't decipher the exact strokes on most of the words, so I can't input them into a radical dictionary. I was able to translate a little bit of it, but it would be wonderful to have a more fluent chinese reader look at them. Thanks so much in advance for your time. -Grace
jbradfor Posted July 25, 2011 at 04:19 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2011 at 04:19 PM What part do you need translated? It seems pretty obvious from the pictures what is going on ;) Although I can't tell if the one on the bottom is female or one of those androgynous pretty-boys so common in shōjo manga. brief (and bad) summary: Page 1: "how/why are you sleeping in my room?" Page 2: "finally waking up" "what are you doing" "because you are so cute" Page 3: "realize how peaceful it is? I'm very happy" "it is very peaceful" "with full moons like tonight... if you live alone" < something> "it's OK, right." and then they get it on. Although I could use some help. On the third page, how would you translate "会想起那些不堪回首的前世记忆"? can not bear to recollect memories from previous lives?
dolcegabbana Posted July 25, 2011 at 06:07 PM Author Report Share Posted July 25, 2011 at 06:07 PM Thanks jbradford! Lol...I agree it is easy to tell what is going on, but I wanted to know what they were saying. They summary was really helpful, thank you for the help. Would it be possible for someone to type out the characters in the pictures? There are a lot that I don't recognize, mainly on pages 2 and 3, and I can't zoom in close enough to see the exact strokes. Thanks again, this forum is awesome. jbradfor Posted July 26, 2011 at 06:25 PM Report Share Posted July 26, 2011 at 06:25 PM The scan is pretty hard to read, and I'm not sure if you will have any takers to type in all the text.... It can take a while, so unless someone wants to practice their character typing skills, it's pretty boring. That said, if I get too bored, I'll give it a try. If you like manga / comics, and you want to practice reading, can I recommend our existing comic reading project? The comics selected have scans that are much easier to read, and have comics at various levels of difficulty, including ones that are easier than this one. New Members c聪_ Posted July 27, 2011 at 12:30 PM New Members Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 at 12:30 PM 怎么睡在我的房間……?
Glenn Posted July 27, 2011 at 11:59 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2011 at 11:59 PM I'm curious as to why they decided to go with a mix of traditional and simplified characters. Are they trying to show different accents or something, like one from the mainland and one from Taiwan? That's the only thing I can think of that makes any sense to me. jbradfor Posted July 28, 2011 at 12:25 AM Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 12:25 AM That's funny, I didn't even notice the change. Either I've actually gotten equally fluent in both, or more likely I got distracted by the pictures. ;)
dolcegabbana Posted July 28, 2011 at 02:16 AM Author Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 02:16 AM Thanks so much!!! It was so nice of you to take the time to type that out for me.

dolcegabbana Posted July 28, 2011 at 04:27 AM Author Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 04:27 AM Does anyone understand this line at the end? - 边说边做有点困难呢. "Side by side, it is still a little difficult?" (Unless 边说边 is some idiom that I am unfamiliar with). It just doesn't make sense in context bc the next sentence is :比起你的小提琴声,果然. 还是滿本人更好. "Compared to the sound of your violin...but it is still better to have you in person."
jbradfor Posted July 28, 2011 at 01:33 PM Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 01:33 PM Yes, 边X边Y is an idiom. It means doing X and Y at the same time. So here, the sentence means "Talking and doing (kissing) at the same time is difficult, isn't it?
New Members c聪_ Posted July 28, 2011 at 01:45 PM New Members Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 01:45 PM 边...边... is a phrase to express two things you are doing simultaneously. As mentioned above we know “做” here refers to "kiss" 边说边做 means "Talk while kissing"
dolcegabbana Posted July 28, 2011 at 04:24 PM Author Report Share Posted July 28, 2011 at 04:24 PM Ah, that makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the help . I'm still confused about the next line though...比起你的小提琴声,果然. 还是滿本人更好. Compared to the sound of your violin...(what are they comparing to the violin? talking?). Or is it supposed to mean "[talking] over the sound of your violin"? Dang, I thought I knew quite a few chinese words but then they go and mix them together like this...so many subtle little differences.
