I think any learners, let say, for French will read La Figaro, Le Monde or Liberation, the top three most famous le journal. So, which local chinese newspapers and magazines are the most favourite by chinese learners?

In your experience, which one is the best for starters?

People's Daily, by far. Just memorize the following:

1) 中国领导会见insert irrelevant foreign leader name here

2) insert economic activity here创造了史上新高

3) insert governmental or social regulation here改革见巨大成效

If you learn these three simple phrases, you've practically acheived full newspaper literacy !
