Wait, 有 and 久 don't rhyme? I thought that the pinyin "iu" was a 'contraction' for "iou", which is the same as "you".

They do rhyme in standard pronunciation (although not in certain accents).

Yep, the difference is clear. Does anyone know whether it's a regional variation in pronunciation? North vs South, or otherwise?

For me, I think of this as a difference between a Beijing-accented Mandarin which is often accepted as near enough to standard to make no difference, and the actual standard. But I could well be wrong, and will no doubt be told so if I am.
