vexed Posted August 2, 2011 at 03:48 AM Report Posted August 2, 2011 at 03:48 AM Hello, I recently took a mock New HSK 3 test. I think I passed, I just want someone to check my maths (it's not my strong point!) Listening: 33/40 Reading: 27/30 Writing 4/10 Each test is marked out of 100, so I divided 33 by 40, then times by 100 to get the score out of 100. Repeated the same process for the other two and arrived at 212.5/300. A score of 180 or higher is needed to pass. Is the maths right? Sorry for my incompetence. Kirk Quote
edelweis Posted August 2, 2011 at 10:05 AM Report Posted August 2, 2011 at 10:05 AM 33/40 = 0.825 => 82.5pts 27/30 = 0.9 => 90pts 4/10 = 0.4 => 40 pts Total: 212.5pts. However, regarding the Writing part, did you take into account the fact that all questions do not have the same weight? According to this page, the Sentences part weighs 60% and the Hanzi part weighs 40%. So assuming your test has 5 Sentence questions, and 5 Hanzi questions, each Sentence would be worth 60/5 = 12pts, and each Hanzi would be worth 40/5 = 8pts. (but that's only my interpretation of the chart). Quote
vexed Posted August 3, 2011 at 12:52 AM Author Report Posted August 3, 2011 at 12:52 AM Ah thanks, I didn't know that. That's good to know since my memory for Hanzi writing is awful (the only way I scored points was by looking for the characters elsewhere in the test paper!). Thanks for the info Quote
