It's about time this site had a logo of some sort. I don't want anything involving pandas and Great Walls or pagodas, as that's been done to death. I tried to think of a Chinese character that might sum up what we do - basically, talking about Chinese stuff - but there wasn't one. So I invented it.

This is a first attempt. Criticism welcome, praise more so. I'm not wedded to this idea, so if you have a better one, speak up. There is a budget to get something done if not professionally, at least slightly less amateurishly. And we can also muddle on without one for a few more years.

Interesting. Personally I think it's a bit confusing to have made up character ( 讠+中). You'll just mess with everyone's mind and scare off the beginners

There is actually 訲 (which if you can't see it, is 言+中). I simplified it, as I don't want people reading it 言中.

Here's a slightly different version as it would look on the actual site after the upcoming software upgrade. Ignore the content, I'm just using a BBC RSS feed to populate it.

Very cool ... I suppose replacing the vertical stroke of the 中 with a 讠would look horrid?

EDIT: even just scribbling it on a bit of paper it does. I like initial suggestion.

Using 讠as the middle of 中 might work - anyone want to mock one up?

Corny, but this popped into my head - making the box in 中 into a square speech bubble somehow, have a big 中 shadowing in the background. Or something.

The 讠 looks out of proportion to the 中. I think it would look better if it was slightly smaller and didn't go below the bottom of the vertical stroke in 中.
