aoliwei Posted August 18, 2011 at 11:02 PM Report Posted August 18, 2011 at 11:02 PM Hi, I would like to be able to tell this short little story to my Chinese friends. Can anyone help out with correcting my grammar etc? I'm a bit worried that it doesn't make sense and I might make a fool of myself (which as you will see in my story, is a little common for me!) Thank you for any feedback or help that you can give! 1 Quote

jbradfor Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:35 PM Report Posted August 19, 2011 at 03:35 PM And i don't konw what do u really mean by "她笑我。" Most likely "she laughed at me". In English, 笑 can be used as a transitive verb like this (to laugh at someone). I don't think it can be used as such in Chinese? What would one use instead? 笑話? Quote
Michaelyus Posted August 22, 2011 at 02:15 PM Report Posted August 22, 2011 at 02:15 PM 嘲笑X = laugh at X Sort of a coverbial change, rather than prepositional change. Quote

I don't think it can be used as such in Chinese? Sure you can: 我笑他不会绑鞋带 = I laughed at him [for] not knowing how to tie shoelaces = I laughed at his inability to tie shoelaces Quote
