New Members Helanren Posted August 19, 2011 at 11:08 AM New Members Report Posted August 19, 2011 at 11:08 AM It is relatively easy to get beginner's Chinese audio lessons on youtube etc. but it strikes me that most of it is by female teachers. Now, there's nothing against that per se, and I guess it sells, but men and women don't speak the same way. In your native language when you grow up, you hang out with guys most of the time, and your language forms accordingly. You'll never hear an American guy say something like "Oh..my...god. That is soooo lame, that dress is soooo yummy on you!" unlike he's in showbusiness or something. So, in the same spirit, I think it's best for us male learners of a foreign language to learn from male teachers, unless we all want to sound like the showbiz equivalent of a Chinese guy. Now, as I said, I'm not aware of too many male teachers on youtube, so I'm hoping we can help each other find more, but here are some to start with: http://www.youtube.com/user/askbenny (mediocre quality, and seems to have gone commercial) http://www.youtube.com/user/NYChineseLearning (basic but high quality, doesn't seem to be updated anymore though) I hope we can make a comprehensive list of material by male native speakers, so we will sound less girly!
