Translation of my online moniker

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if this is an appropriate translation of my online moniker "demonic duck" - 惡魔的鶩 / 恶魔的鹜。

謝謝 / 谢谢!

Why 鶩 vs 鴨?

Because I heard 鴨 can also be slang for a male prostitute, which isn't quite what I was going for :P

As long as people don't start calling you 小恶魔.....

"Little devil" - what's wrong with this?

Have you searched google images for that? With safe search off? May be nice to look at, but something tells me that's not the image your want to project....

So it looks like that phrase carries the same connotations as its English equivalent? Fair enough... would 惡魔 alone carry the same meaning? I'm looking for "demonic" as in a literal sense rather than "devilish" as in naughty.

I'm sorry, I'm lost... as you might have guessed I'm only a beginner at present...

I assume skylee is referring to 鴉片.

I'm looking for "demonic" as in a literal sense rather than "devilish" as in naughty.

Again, I recommend searching google images for 惡魔 and see if that is the image you want.

Ah, I see, I was getting the translation "duck virus" which was very confusing :P

I'm not really looking for "evil", just demonic (this is like saying "not really fierce, just a tiger". I mean sure, all tigers are fierce, but you can at least imagine the concept of a tiger that wasn't fierce).

Consider -

Take the meaning of demonic and its consonants d and m, perhaps you could consider 大魔鴨 (da mo ya, big demonic / magic duck). But since it is just a little red cartoon duck, you could change the 大 to 小 to emphasise its cuteness, so that it becomes 小魔鴨 (xiao mo ya, little demonic / magic duck).

I think you should have the picture in post 10 as your avatar.

I think you're right! But first, I must mirror the image, as otherwise my poor avatar won't be able to see his own posts :(

Bit late to the party, but I think it'd be a shame to not at least consider drawing inspiration from Count Duckula. The cartoon name is translated as 怪鸭历险记, while Duckula himself is 达寇拉.
