feihong Posted September 3, 2011 at 03:01 AM Report Posted September 3, 2011 at 03:01 AM Let's Grand Comic Reading Project! This time we're going to check out BLAME!, which is our first science fiction title since Doraemon. The world of BLAME! features a pitiless, surreal horrorscape populated by cyborgs, mutants, and giant biomechanical monsters. Our protagonist is a special agent tasked with... some sort of mission. To be honest, I haven't read this comic in a while, but I do remember that it has plenty of wholesome ultraviolence. Despite the science fiction setting, I don't think it's a very difficult read because there isn't all that much text. There are a lot of interesting ideas in this comic, but the author, Tsutomu Nihei, is more interested in showing rather than telling. Gleaves Posted December 16, 2011 at 05:54 PM Report Posted December 16, 2011 at 05:54 PM I finished up book 1 of this today. I must say, I like this. It is quite grim and gritty. As mentioned, dialogue is sparse and the story is often told through the visuals, which can be a bit of a puzzle. I often had to go back and find some detail in a frame that I had first missed. I found the pictures more difficult to understand than the language, which is a first since dabbling in Chinese comics. There is not a ton to read/learn, and what is there is often specifc to this world type stuff. But I've enjoyed this in moments when I can't muster the strength for a full Chinese text. 1 Quote
