Scoobyqueen Posted September 6, 2011 at 11:17 AM Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 11:17 AM I have recently started recording my lessons and have found this to be of great help. 1 Quote
imron Posted September 6, 2011 at 01:56 PM Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 01:56 PM I sometimes record phone or skype calls to play them back to listen for mistakes. Yes it is cringe worthy  Quote

imron Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:26 PM Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:26 PM I definitely notice things I have said poorly, and that does spur me to pay more attention to them in the future. Quote
prateeksha Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:31 PM Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:31 PM Scoobyqueen, I have been thinking of doing this for quite a long time now although could never exactly figure out what I wanted to do. What do you mean by recording the lesson? What the teacher speaks in the class or what you study by yourself? I have very often thought of recording the teacher's lecture, because they tell you so much more than just the theory. My teacher would tell a lot about origin of words and practical usage instances. How do you record? Do you use a dictaphone or your phone's recorder? Quote

rezaf Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:45 PM Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:45 PM I guess you people have a lot of spare time. I also started recording the lectures for a while but have never listened to them. I have asked a lot of people who do this in my class and they also admit they don't have the time to listen to the recordings. However just before the exams when teachers start giving us 重点 it might come in handy. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:51 PM Author Report Posted September 6, 2011 at 02:51 PM I guess you people have a lot of spare time. Obviously with the jetlag which gives you an extra eight hours advantage at least once a month that helps me in my cosy job that is not demanding at all. Quote
imron Posted September 7, 2011 at 12:21 AM Report Posted September 7, 2011 at 12:21 AM I guess you people have a lot of spare time. Study is study is study. I could spend 30 mins revising vocab, or I could spend 30 mins going over actual sentences I spoke looking for errors and ways to fix them. Both are useful activities to do. I guess anyone seriously learning Chinese needs to have a lot of spare time. 1 Quote
Guest realmayo Posted September 7, 2011 at 09:24 AM Report Posted September 7, 2011 at 09:24 AM Big difference between recording & listening to one-on-one classes, versus doing the same for lectures rezaf. Quote
Chinadoog Posted September 8, 2011 at 06:22 AM Report Posted September 8, 2011 at 06:22 AM I don't have the balls to even try this. I heard myself speaking Chinese once on a short video my gf did on her cellphone when we were eating and it was brutal. Quote
imron Posted September 9, 2011 at 12:17 AM Report Posted September 9, 2011 at 12:17 AM It's a humbling experience, but it can really help your Chinese improve, especially if you already have an ear for what is good chinese and what is bad chinese. It basically forces you to see your mistakes. I whole-heartedly recommend everyone to try this, at least from time to time. Quote
