OneEye Posted September 7, 2011 at 10:37 AM Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 at 10:37 AM I was walking to class today and made eye contact with this guy. Apparently that was enough to make him mad, because when I passed him he turned around and yelled at me. It sounded like "Gǎn xiàn nǐ yóu yuán zù!" No clue what it could mean or if I heard it right. I'm in Taipei so there's also the possibility that it was Taiwanese or Hakka (or who knows what else). Any ideas? I have a thick skin, I can take it. Kenny同志 Posted September 7, 2011 at 02:47 PM Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 at 02:47 PM No idea what it means. Perhaps it's not Mandarin.

OneEye Posted September 7, 2011 at 04:23 PM Author Report Share Posted September 7, 2011 at 04:23 PM Could be, but so far I'm going to say 眼珠 makes the most sense, because I got the impression that he didn't like me looking at him. He also sounded like he could have been a bit drunk. I don't have enough experience with drunk Chinese yet, but he sounded pretty slurred and surly. Slurly? Yang Rui Posted September 10, 2011 at 03:37 PM Report Share Posted September 10, 2011 at 03:37 PM Could it be something along the lines of "f*ck you and all your ancestors"? Gan4 means f*ck and the presence of "zu" at the end makes it sound like it could be something ancestor-related. Still doesn't make sense from the exact phonetics you wrote down, but in all the excitement you might not have picked up the exact wording.
