Lu Posted September 11, 2011 at 09:06 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 at 09:06 AM But doesn't nymphomania (花痴) refer to female only?Yes, nymphomania refers specifically to women who are sex-crazed. It's also seriously outdated, these days it's recognized that it's not a disease for a woman to like sex. And if a woman has too much sex for someone else's liking she is simply called a slut.Isn't 花痴 a lot less serious than 'nymphomaniac', more like a woman who likes good-looking guys and likes falling in love? anonymoose Posted September 11, 2011 at 09:53 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 at 09:53 AM I don't know that nymphomania is considered a disease. I'm sure most guys would like a nymphomaniac for a girlfriend.
xiaocai Posted September 11, 2011 at 10:43 AM Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 at 10:43 AM I think the problem is that it can be non-selective on the target.
edelweis Posted September 11, 2011 at 05:19 PM Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 at 05:19 PM I find that 色情狂 a bit reassuring about my listening skills... I really couldn't match the sounds to 这个情况 because I heard only one "e4" syllabe at the beginning of the youtube file, and the last syllabe did not sound like 4th tone at all to me (but I wouldn't have guessed 2nd tone, I thought it was 3rd tone and searched for x夼 words...) So, imaneo, in what context did she say 色情狂 now you've sparked my curiosity...
imaneo Posted September 11, 2011 at 06:15 PM Author Report Share Posted September 11, 2011 at 06:15 PM Don't worry, I'm not a sex maniac who is harassing some poor girl. We are lovers so she was just being playful by teasing me. Her English is perfect but I don't speak any Chinese and that puts me at a bit of a disadvantage. She thought it was funny to say that while refusing to tell me the meaning. I became very curious but I was afraid to ask any of my local Chinese friends in case the answer was something embarrassing so I came here to find help. I'm actually pleased it was 色情狂. I like her sense of humour. Now I need to figure out a good response for the next time she says it...
