New Members Monaarts Posted September 12, 2011 at 02:39 AM New Members Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 02:39 AM I am just starting to learn Chinese in college, so far we have learned sounds, numbers, some food words, etc. I was hoping I could watch a few movies that aren't too intense, maybe even children's movies, that can help me speak better. I looked all over the Internet and couldn't find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thank you!
Ludens Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:32 AM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:32 AM I don't think that there is such a thing as an "elementary level Chinese movie". If you're just starting to learn Chinese, I don't think you will be able to understand any native material for a relatively long time to come. You can of course watch Chinese films, it may indirectly benefit you to get used to the sounds of spoken Chinese, but for that any movie in your target language will do. roddy Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:58 AM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:58 AM 'Elementary level' was my addition to an initially vague title, to be fair.
renzhe Posted September 12, 2011 at 03:24 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 03:24 PM You might be interested in our TV Series First Episode Project, where you have many links, some word lists and difficulty rating. But still, this is a skill which takes time to develop. It's likely that you won't get much out of it in your first 6 months of studying. jbradfor Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:13 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:13 PM I'm sure there must be TV series for Chinese toddlers. That might be your level for a while. However, even if they are half as annoying as those made for American toddlers (and I'd expect they'd be worse), you might find too annoying to stand. querido Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:14 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 04:14 PM To Monaarts: The following is from a website that's in Chinese; I'll help you with that if it interests you. It's published by a university, following standards developed by the Chinese government, with textbooks and workbooks free to download. 1st grade, lesson 8: http://www.hwjyw.com...main8/k_002.htm 2nd grade, lesson 8: http://www.hwjyw.com...main8/k_002.htm Etc. It's all vocabulary-graduated, with wordlists provided, and progresses up to about the 2000 word level.
deathtrap Posted September 12, 2011 at 10:54 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 10:54 PM @querido , That's a great link, any chance there are download links for all the lessons/audio/materials?
querido Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:34 PM Report Share Posted September 12, 2011 at 11:34 PM To deathtrap: Thanks! To download the courseware? No, but it isn't expensive. Here's a source, $6 per volume: http://www.nanhaiboo...e-language.html . To use the courseware online free: http://www.hwjyw.com...dzjc/huawen.htm To download the textbook and workbook pdfs: http://www.hwjyw.com...loads/zhongwen/ At the courseware link, see the blue image like a credit card in the center? That's 中文 Zhongwen. See the links to its right numbered 1-12? Those are the volumes. Clicking on one takes you into a flash presentation. See the blue wings numbered 一 through 四? Those are sections, with "go back" being the circle in the upper right . Click on one and choose the lesson. Inside the lesson, "go back" is the button in the lower left. Now, the links in here have English popups to ease navigation. There's a lot of stuff in there. See the situational dialogues and "role playing" lessons.
