Windows 7 Gadgets (widgets) - known issue?

Hello,

For the last few days my Windows 7 Gadgets (widgets) have been unable to update (a weather feed, and a currency converter (standard windows 7 issue - not custom), is anyone else having this issue?

I have been in China for just over 12 months now, and this is the first time this happened (this includes during the July 'downtime' at which point the still operated), so I am wondering if anyone else has this issue and/or knows of a fix?

My location is Nanjing China, and I would be on a university network (I believe) - Nanjing University.
