roddy Posted September 20, 2011 at 11:46 AM Report Posted September 20, 2011 at 11:46 AM "Yes, and you're so lucky as well, learning to run a company last weekend . . ." I wouldn't be shy about pointing out there was a lot of hard work involved too. 2 Quote

jbradfor Posted September 20, 2011 at 05:22 PM Report Posted September 20, 2011 at 05:22 PM I would take it as a compliment. But, as others have said, I would point out how much work you have spent on it, it would make you look more hard working. As an engineer, I admit that I often consider PR easy. Just go and make up lies about that products without saying anything illegal I realize that truth of PR is not like that. Quote
Olle Linge Posted September 20, 2011 at 10:07 PM Report Posted September 20, 2011 at 10:07 PM I've heard similar compliments many times, not only regarding language ability. It demonstrates a lack of understanding what's going on, but rather than trying to enlighten the person in question that it actually isn't all that easy and that I've spent thousands of hours studying Chinese, I usually just nod and smile, perhaps adding something like: "I've practised a lot, you could do it to if you really wanted to". It is almost impossible to explain to someone how hard it is to reach a certain level if they haven't tried it themselves, and I feel less and less inclined to even try.. Perhaps I'm lazy, irresponsible or something, but I just think it isn't worth it. If someone is genuinely interested, that's of course something entirely different. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted September 20, 2011 at 10:51 PM Report Posted September 20, 2011 at 10:51 PM That was a good line roddy but I can't give you a green rep since we don't have lol reps yet. Quote
feihong Posted September 21, 2011 at 03:27 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 03:27 AM One sign of mastery is when you do something so well you make it look easy. So I would take it as a compliment. Quote
Lu Posted September 25, 2011 at 09:35 AM Report Posted September 25, 2011 at 09:35 AM I'd probably take it as intended as a compliment, but basically worthless as compliments go because the person giving it has no idea what you have actually accomplished. But I tend to be too critical of compliments :-) Quote
