syke Posted September 21, 2011 at 01:59 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 01:59 AM MY situation...I've been trying to work out with the school how much of my pay will go to tax. I am suppose to receive 6,800 after tax. So, how much exactly will the tax equal to? I thought there might be some sort of tax calculator. Now the school said 200rmb is taxed if my pay is 7,000rmb (I net 6,800). Is this true? I've been trying to work it out but it is as confusing as hell and even the guy I am talking to at school isn't 100% sure... Can anyone help? Quote

syke Posted September 21, 2011 at 05:06 AM Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 05:06 AM I just want to know if I get paid 7000rmb before tax, how much I will be actually taking home. I don't want to end up taking home less than 6,800rmb. Quote
imron Posted September 21, 2011 at 05:36 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 05:36 AM I just want to know if I get paid 7000rmb before tax, how much I will be actually taking home. I'm not sure where the confusion lies, didn't you mention in your first post that you will be getting RMB 6,800? Why would you expect it to be less if the school has told you this is what you will be paid? Quote

edelweis Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:22 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:22 AM Will/does your contract mention wage amount before or after tax deduction? [edit] not that it is really relevant, but my French law working contract mentions before tax salary, and then my monthly pay slips have a full page of taxes, various mandatory insurances, and other deductions, to explain the net amount I do receive. Curious to know how it works in China. Also perhaps the taxes vary according to which province or city you're in... you'd need to get hold of an accountant to have exact information. Or have your contract explicitly mention the after tax amount you will receive. Quote
imron Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:46 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:46 AM Rather than asking about taxes you'd be better off asking how much you'll be receiving in hand each month. The person you are dealing with probably has no idea of what taxes and other things are being taken from your salary (that'll all be handled by the financial dept before he or you see that amount). They should however know how much you'll receive in hand each month. 1 Quote
WestTexas Posted September 21, 2011 at 07:04 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 07:04 AM I get paid a flat amount of yuan each month, they just hand me a big stack of cash. I have worked at two schools and it's like this. The guy will hand you a stack of cash equal to 6800 yuan. Who cares about the tax? 1 Quote
anonymoose Posted September 21, 2011 at 08:10 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 08:10 AM Based on this Wikipedia page, if I haven't made a mistake in my calculation, if you're netting 6800, then your pay before tax is 6994.44 RMB. 2 Quote
roddy Posted September 21, 2011 at 08:17 AM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 08:17 AM They're paying you what you said you wanted to be paid - how are they shafting you? That said - does anyone get official statements of tax paid- something from the tax people rather than your employer? What are the actual forms or slips called? Quote
syke Posted September 21, 2011 at 09:22 AM Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 09:22 AM I have very limited knowledge about how things work in china. I am just seeking come clarifications from people who do work here and have so for some time. I said "I do not want to get shafted", not that I was or would be. Thank you to: anonymoose for answering my question. Quote

jkhsu Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:02 PM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:02 PM Just curious, but is there a reason why anonymoose received a negative vote? The Wikipedia link seems helpful and the answer that anonymoose gave seems pretty close to http://chinajobline....calculator.html Edit: I guess that has now been corrected. Quote
jbradfor Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:46 PM Report Posted September 21, 2011 at 06:46 PM Don't know -- I'm guessing either someone clicked the wrong button (be careful you tablet users!), or someone thought that a good answer to a bad question is bad? Quote
