New Members AzureSkyy Posted September 30, 2011 at 12:09 AM New Members Report Share Posted September 30, 2011 at 12:09 AM Hi. I found this folder in my Recent Folders list. Instant red flag, as this computer has never been in another's possession who writes in any Asian language, and the fact that it was recently accessed. If someone could ... (a) Translate this folder name and (b) Write the name in both its native language and in English that would be great. I want to know what the folder is named, and be able to search for it. I cannot produce the characters in the image, or I'd do that part myself. Thankyou so much, ~Haven.- p.s. If this is not Mandarin/Cantonese script, I apologize and would appreciate a reference to where I could accomplish my goals above.
xiaocai Posted October 1, 2011 at 09:53 AM Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 at 09:53 AM It is most likely to be mojibake. It will be very difficult to identify the name if correct coding is not applied.
edelweis Posted October 1, 2011 at 12:08 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 at 12:08 PM Not sure what OS you have, but what about right-clicking on it and then selecting "properties" in the contextual menu? [edit] just try that on another non-suspicious entry first perhaps. I think it works in Windows, but I just tried it in my Gnome menus and it only opened the directory, there was no menu. xiaocai Posted October 1, 2011 at 03:13 PM Report Share Posted October 1, 2011 at 03:13 PM As a Chinese person who also has also been studying Japanese casually, I am quite confident to tell you that it is neither Chinese nor Japanese. They look like Chinese characters to me though, but as far as I'm aware of, the two languages aforementioned are the only two still employ Chinese characters in their standard writing systems, hence my speculation. New Members AzureSkyy Posted October 2, 2011 at 02:28 PM Author New Members Report Share Posted October 2, 2011 at 02:28 PM @Xiaocai - Thankyou sir. I'll trust your knowledge. Am I correct in assuming, then, that this resembles an error more than it does a security threat? That was the only real concern here. Appreciate your time and responses. ~Haven.-
creamyhorror Posted October 2, 2011 at 05:17 PM Report Share Posted October 2, 2011 at 05:17 PM It's probably mojibake. Anyway, maybe someone did use your computer to access a misnamed folder...
