New Egg Posted October 4, 2011 at 08:40 AM Report Posted October 4, 2011 at 08:40 AM Hey, I'm a Canadian-born Chinese... I'm in a nostalgic mood and am looking for a handful of "greatest hits" Canto songs plus a few I remember from my mom's 80's CD before she lost it. I don't remember any of the lyrics and can only remember the melodies. So I played them on the piano and wrote down the notes. One has a choris that goes like this: f-d-g-g---------f---g-c---------d-c-a-a---a#-a#- Another song starts like this: g-g-g-g-g---f---d-----------d-f-e-e-e-e-e-d-c---d----------- Another song has a choris that ends like this: c2-------g1-------d2-------g1-------e2---f2-g2-f2---e2---e2---d2-c2-d2-------e2---f2-g2-f2---e2---e2---d2-c2-g1-------f1---c2---c2---d2---e2---d2---c2-d2---c2-b1-c2------- I can't read chinese and wouldn't recognize any titles, so hopefully there's a youtube video out there someone can link to. Any other song suggestions on par with the above would be welcome too! So far I've found "Shanghai Bund" and Priscilla Chan's "Thousands of songs" =D That's the kind of epic I'm looking for! Quote
jkhsu Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:24 AM Report Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:24 AM Are you able to record what you've played on the piano and upload the file? Quote
New Egg Posted October 5, 2011 at 04:56 AM Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 at 04:56 AM I've uploaded a few very short clips: one song starts like this: 1.mp3 another song has this somewhere in there (i never heard the whole song but the one part sounds promising) 2.mp3 another song has a chorus that starts like this 3.mp3 Quote
zhouhana Posted October 5, 2011 at 12:57 PM Report Posted October 5, 2011 at 12:57 PM I tried to open the links but it said I don't have permission. Anyway, have you tried http://www.midomi.com/ ? It's great for finding songs, even Chinese ones. Quote
cababunga Posted October 5, 2011 at 05:49 PM Report Posted October 5, 2011 at 05:49 PM There are more then a few search engines in existence that specialize on indexing melodies. Google for "melody search engine" and try some of them. Also, the tunes you uploaded to upload-mp3 are not publicly accessible; you may want to change their permissions. Quote
New Egg Posted October 5, 2011 at 06:05 PM Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 at 06:05 PM I've updated the files, now they're public. Quote
skylee Posted October 5, 2011 at 07:27 PM Report Posted October 5, 2011 at 07:27 PM The third one sounds like 壯志驕陽 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAc2pzswYns The second one sounds like 只願一生愛一人 -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URzLLsnAIf8 Quote
New Egg Posted October 6, 2011 at 12:44 AM Author Report Posted October 6, 2011 at 12:44 AM Thanks! Though I figured the first one would be more recognizable, cuz I heard it in radio quite a few times in Vancouver couple years ago. Quote
semantic nuance Posted October 6, 2011 at 01:58 AM Report Posted October 6, 2011 at 01:58 AM The second one, Mandarin version is 瘐澄慶 (哈林)--讓我一次愛個夠 (Youtube) Quote
New Egg Posted October 11, 2011 at 04:13 AM Author Report Posted October 11, 2011 at 04:13 AM Does anyone know the first one? http://www.upload-mp3.com/files/317011_2gyik/1.mp3 Quote
skylee Posted October 12, 2011 at 06:27 PM Report Posted October 12, 2011 at 06:27 PM I would like to help but I can't think of anything similar. Can you tell us more about the song? Was it a male or female singer? Can you remember more of the song (and record it and post it here)? etc. Quote
New Egg Posted October 12, 2011 at 10:19 PM Author Report Posted October 12, 2011 at 10:19 PM Here's a slightly longer version of the last song... the singer is male 5.mp3 Here's another one I'm curious about: 4.mp3 Quote
New Egg Posted November 3, 2011 at 08:09 PM Author Report Posted November 3, 2011 at 08:09 PM Anyone? Quote
jkhsu Posted November 3, 2011 at 08:39 PM Report Posted November 3, 2011 at 08:39 PM The few people who could probably help you out are already on this thread. As skylee mentioned, it would probably help if you can provide any additional info. You said you can't read Chinese but can you sing any of the lyrics? Try recording those and I am sure someone can recognize them. Quote
New Egg Posted November 4, 2011 at 11:26 PM Author Report Posted November 4, 2011 at 11:26 PM I don't remember the words in the songs, only the melody. Song "5" might be relatively recent as I've heard it on radio station AM1470 in Vancouver less than 3 years ago... it's a modern song with a traditional instrumental in between verses. Singer is male. I've extended the melody for song "5", so it now includes exactly one verse followed by one chorus: 5.mp3 Song "4" is from the 80's, from the sme CD (that we no longer have - see first post) as songs "3" and "2", so the artist is likely Jacky Cheung as well. Song "4" is also extended to include a verse before the chorus. 4.mp3 Quote
