LUCK Posted October 8, 2011 at 12:08 PM Report Posted October 8, 2011 at 12:08 PM Dear all! I am Emey. I have a question related to Chinese. What must I say "I have 3 brothers and 2 sisters" in Chinese? Thanks a lot and best wishes! I am looking forward to hearing from you. My best regards. Emey Quote
Iriya Posted October 8, 2011 at 12:26 PM Report Posted October 8, 2011 at 12:26 PM 我有三个兄弟和两个姐妹。 Though, you're usually expected to clarify which of your siblings are older/younger than you. 1 Quote
Hugh Posted October 9, 2011 at 07:10 AM Report Posted October 9, 2011 at 07:10 AM Older brother: 哥哥 (gēge) Younger brother: 弟弟 (dìdi) Older sister: 姐姐 (jiějie) Younger sister: 妹妹 (mèimei) Notice that the tone of the second character is neutral in family terms. Quote
Gymnosopher Posted October 9, 2011 at 08:43 AM Report Posted October 9, 2011 at 08:43 AM It's probably best to go with Iriya's answer if you just want a straightforward way to say it, though as you said 'say' perhaps it would be useful to give you the pinyin for it too? 我有三个兄弟和两个姐妹。 wǒ yǒu sān gè xiōngdì hé liǎnggè jiěmèi. Or to be more typical and specify how many older/younger you can use East Asia Student's breakdown. So you'd start the same way with: 我有 (wǒ yǒu) [i have] and follow it with a list separated by commas and a 和 (hé) at the end, just like in English. The list would be the number followed by each type. As 3 ,三个 (sān gè), and 2, 两个 (liǎnggè), are given above all else you need is to say 1 as 一个 (yīgè). Now mix it up! E.g. 2 older brothers, 1 younger brother, 1 older sister and 1 younger sister would be 我有两个哥哥,一个弟弟,一个姐姐和一个妹妹。 Quote
