kavanin Posted October 13, 2011 at 08:19 PM Report Posted October 13, 2011 at 08:19 PM What does 可 add to the meaning of the following sentence, please? I think it essentially means Quote
semantic nuance Posted October 14, 2011 at 02:41 AM Report Posted October 14, 2011 at 02:41 AM It is used to emphasize. It can be read as " 千萬", "絕對". I think it sounds like 'Don't you ever forget (about it)!" 1 Quote
Hofmann Posted October 14, 2011 at 03:36 AM Report Posted October 14, 2011 at 03:36 AM All the adverb definitions from 國語辭典: 能夠。 1 Quote
kavanin Posted October 14, 2011 at 10:35 AM Author Report Posted October 14, 2011 at 10:35 AM Thank you. Can someone who is proficient in Turkish, if there is any on the forum, comment on the following idea? As far as I gather from the info given, the difference between 不要忘记呀! and 你们可不要忘记呀! seems like the difference between "Unutmayın ha!" and "Unutmayasınız ha!" Here a corresponds almost exactly to the very first meaning of 可 in the negative, viz., can; may. (as in "unutamam=我不可以忘记 or 我不能忘记") Quote
