New Members Superangel Posted October 17, 2011 at 08:18 AM New Members Report Posted October 17, 2011 at 08:18 AM Hi everybody Quick question: is there a standard position for Zhuyin/Bopomofo when written next to Chinese characters? According to the font-of-all-knowledge Wikipedia, Zhuyin should be written on top for horizontal text. However, I've seen plenty of examples written to the right for horizontal text too. Is there a preferred or 'correct' position that should be used? Thanks in advance! Quote
jbradfor Posted October 17, 2011 at 02:25 PM Report Posted October 17, 2011 at 02:25 PM Pretty much the only time I've seen zhuyin is in children's reading material and in dictionaries. In the former, however, as I recall vertical writing has been a lot more common. That said, every time I've seen horizontal text the zhuyin's been on the top, but if it's less common maybe it's "less standard"? Quote
Hofmann Posted October 18, 2011 at 12:51 AM Report Posted October 18, 2011 at 12:51 AM Some typefaces have Zhuyin built in. Those designed for vertical writing, when used to write horizontally, look like that. Quote
