Short Stories

Anyone have recommendations for short stories to read? I'm thinking really short if we can find one pagers. I'm a beginner so while I can search on 小说 and find websites I can't easily navigate to stuff that might be interesting.

If you're a beginner only looking for one-pagers, you're probably better off with something like the Chinese Breeze graded readers (search the forums for more info).

Also, just for future reference, 小说 usually means novels so searching for that in Chinese won't help you find what you want. 短篇小说 works better for short stories.

Short stories in Chinese? Do you have any preference? I used to subscribe <小说月报> and <收获>, two literature magazines with good short stories and novellas. Not sure if they still exist

you can watch many short stories from a story magazine 《故事会》 on this website： 《故事会》

have you read the University of Iowa collection thread? the texts are fairly short.

One-pagers are often referred to as 小小说.

The stories aren't geared towards foreign learners, but are all quite short (2-5 pages). I find them quite enjoyable, and it's one of the easiest to read "native Chinese" sites I've found.

I think you can search 寓言故事 or 童話故事 in Baidu.com

These are for Chinese children and the language would not be too complicated.

Most of them are free and suitable for beginner.

Awesome, I understand that one di di da! di di da! the sheets got wet! Haha shi da da, shi da da! At least I picked up all the words from the drawings. Good stuff. I still prefer to read the stories at the other link though, it just goes slower.

Here's a book of short stories: Pīnyīn Rìjì Duǎnwén, all of which are in Pinyin.

The first story is also available in English translation: After the Flood (Dàshuǐ Guòhòu).
