Danski Posted January 3, 2005 at 03:36 PM Report Posted January 3, 2005 at 03:36 PM Wonder if anyone has tried this? I'd like to scan pages of hanzi on my scanner and then convert the picture to text and paste on to a word document (or nj star) so that I can get all the tones and pinyin. Anyone tried this? Is it possible? Quote
roddy Posted January 3, 2005 at 03:41 PM Report Posted January 3, 2005 at 03:41 PM I know it's possible, as when I got asked to translate a scanned newspaper article I was able to get someone else to run it through an Optical Character Reader and they sent me a word document with the text in, which was much easier to work with. Search this forum (the Computing one specifically) for Chinese OCR and you'll get some suggestions for software. Roddy Quote
madizi Posted January 3, 2005 at 05:35 PM Report Posted January 3, 2005 at 05:35 PM I scanned some Chinese text (only horizontal one!) direct to Word document (with HP scanjet 4570c) and then, using Jinshan (Kingsoft) dictionary, went through text and stopped cursor on any unknown word and then there appeared in a box a dictionary definition of word and icon for pronounciation. It is possible to to do this in Word, but not in Adobe Acrobat, as far as I know..... Quote
Danski Posted January 4, 2005 at 05:54 AM Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 at 05:54 AM OK, looks like TH OCR is what I require? Does anyone know where this can be bought? Is it downloadable? Doesn't appear to be any option for this on the web site. I wonder if it's readily available from my local 8rmb a disc software shop? Quote
