hot bean paste

I am not in the vicinity of stores selling a particularly great range of Chinese grocery products, so I am forced to make certain things from scratch or to substitute.

At this point, I am searching for a recipe for hot bean paste. I don't know if this is something readily done... but plain bean paste (would that be yellow bean paste?) might work, combined with chili sauce. But then, in addition to the hot bean paste query, does anyone know how to make yellow bean paste?
