I came across this sentence in a story about a drunken chef on Chinesestoriesplatform.com

"你的餐厅失火了,你的厨房都已经烧烂了"

Does this mean "Your restaurant caught alight and the kitchen has already completely burned down"?

It's the 烂 which I'm not sure about. Does 烧烂 mean "burned completely" ?

爛 means ruined / turned bad / broken. I would think that even if it is only partially burnt down it is still 燒爛了. I think it does not necessarily mean completely as in 爛熟 / 爛醉.

Thanks, skylee. When I looked up 烂, the meanings I found were "soft, mushy, rotten, worn-out" and "thoroughly, utterly". The first set didn't quite fit so I was thinking it must mean "thoroughly or utterly". However, your explanation of the meaning makes more sense.

It may be slightly dialectical. Sometimes you may hear people say 车烂了, or 烂电视机. It means that the car or the television is broken.

Thanks, xiaocai. This is new to me, so your examples are helpful.
