New Members BigJoe90 Posted November 14, 2011 at 10:14 PM New Members Report Posted November 14, 2011 at 10:14 PM Hi, I hope somebody can help me, I have a very good Chinese friend who has some very important exmas coming up and I would like to give them a good luck gift to wish them good luck in their exams but I don't know what would be a good idea. Could somebody give me some ideas ? Also is this sort of thing considered a good idea in Chinese society ? Thanks BigJoe Quote
imluffy Posted November 15, 2011 at 12:04 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 12:04 PM Do you know about Conan(柯南)? A lead role of a Japanese anime. You can give him a Doll of Conan and tell him 挂起他。 挂柯南,it means 挂科难。 He will like it. 1 Quote
xiaocai Posted November 15, 2011 at 12:15 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 12:15 PM Ooo, I'd like one of that too, haha. Not necessarily a doll, a poster will do. But maybe your friend's expectations are higher than just passing the exams, and in that case traditional paintings such as 鲤鱼跳龙门, which basically means achieving top grades, maybe be considered, too. 1 Quote
skylee Posted November 15, 2011 at 01:28 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 01:28 PM I support the carp fish suggestion in #3. It was the first thing I thought of when I read the OP's post. Very Chinese, very positive. 2 Quote
imluffy Posted November 16, 2011 at 04:26 AM Report Posted November 16, 2011 at 04:26 AM I don't think 鲤鱼跃龙门 is good idea. You can use it when someone take a very very very important extam like 高考 which will change his life. He will think it is wried if you give him that gift. Quote
