trisha2766 Posted November 15, 2011 at 06:55 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 06:55 PM I've been doing various searches trying to find out how to refer to a TV episode in Chinese. I've came across ji2 - 集 (which seems more like a measure word for episodes) and cha1 qu3 插曲, which could be the word I'm looking for. Can anyone help with this? Thanks! Quote
feihong Posted November 15, 2011 at 08:04 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 08:04 PM It's 集. For example, 第23集 = episode 23. 全集 means "all episodes". For example, 爱情公寓(全集) means "all episodes of Love Apartment". 1 Quote
jbradfor Posted November 15, 2011 at 09:21 PM Report Posted November 15, 2011 at 09:21 PM I recall seeing 章 used as well -- or am I confusing Chinese shows with Japanese? Quote
Gus Posted November 16, 2011 at 01:32 AM Report Posted November 16, 2011 at 01:32 AM Ah yes, I was actually wondering about this too. 集 is one of those words that feels too short to use the way I would use "episode" in English. I understand “第23集” but how would you say something like: "Yesterday I saw an episode of Arrested Development...." or "Oh yeah, there's this one episode of Seinfeld where...." It always sounds funny and I have to repeat myself when I say things like "我看了一集。。。“ or "有一集。。。". But is that how it's done? Quote
fanglu Posted November 16, 2011 at 02:12 AM Report Posted November 16, 2011 at 02:12 AM cha1 qu3 插曲 In the context of a tv series, this means a song, not the whole episode. It only means 'episode' in the sense of a small part of a bigger event. For example 中印关系中的小插曲 - a small episode in China-India relations. 1 Quote

New Members AihuaCao Posted November 16, 2011 at 11:58 PM New Members Report Posted November 16, 2011 at 11:58 PM I think "集" should be the right answer. "章" should mean chapter, usually for books. For example, a TV drama has 50 episodes. In Chinese, "一个电视剧有50集"。 Quote
