F to L visa in Beijing

Hi guys,

I am about to finish my student visa after my study at Beijing University.

Is there anyway I can apply for a tourist visa while in Beijing? Or do I have to make the trek to Hong Kong/back to the United States because I would rather just stay in China for a bit longer.

My F visa was a single entry and does leaving to Hong Kong count as an exit?

Just an aside, I've had over 5 visas to China so my record should be fine, just wondering if you can apply for a new visa in Beijing, not looking to renew an F visa.

Thanks,

Yi Liu

You can apply - I'd phone up and ask about F visas before you make the journey. Note the requirement for proof of funds though.

Going to Hong Kong counts as an exit.

Let us know how you get on.

Hmm, I need like a minimum of 3 months extension and I read on that website that you can only get one month extension. Is there anyway I can get the 1 Year, 3M multiples (got them twice already before so I have a history). Or do I need to just go back to the States to do that?

There are plenty of visa agents in Beijing that could help you out. One of our recent students finished his program with us and wanted to spend 3 months travelling the country. An agent in Beijing got him a 3 month F visa for I believe around 2,000 RMB, much cheaper than a trip to HK for a new visa would have cost. I'm pretty sure that you cannot obtain a new L visa in country, only extend a current one.
