Geiko Posted November 29, 2011 at 05:02 PM Report Posted November 29, 2011 at 05:02 PM A couple of months ago I was watching cctv in Spanish, when all of a sudden they broadcasted this song by Jolin Tsai (蔡依林) : 马德里不思议。What first surprised me was that anybody had found Madrid interesting enough to write a song about it. But when I paid attention to the clip, I was even more puzzled: why would anyone sing about Madrid and film the videoclip in a small town in Hungary*? The song mentions 拉丁式 and 佛朗明哥的声音, which are hard to find in Eastern Europe. *If you watch , around minute 0:58 she's eating an ice-cream in front of a "shop" called "Szabo Marzipan", which is a museum located in Szentendre, next to Budapest. Of course I can understand Asian people won't see the difference between Spain and Hungary, just the same way most Spaniards wouldn't see any difference between Taiwan and Harbin, for instance, but yet, it made me laugh Quote
jkhsu Posted November 29, 2011 at 06:12 PM Report Posted November 29, 2011 at 06:12 PM According to what I read online, Jolin happened to be filming a commerical in Hungary and decided to flim the video for her song 马德里不思议 there. It seems like this caused confusion among Chinese people as well. Sources: http://baike.baidu.com/view/182766.htm http://zhidao.baidu....on/8911303.html http://zhidao.baidu....on/9500011.html Of course I can understand Asian people won't see the difference between Spain and Hungary Anyone who hasn't visited either of those two places or know their languages may not be able to spot the differences from a music video. I don't think this is limited to "Asian people". I also don't think Jolin filming a song about Madrid in Hungary is the normal thing to do. Given her resources and money, she should have just taken a trip to Madrid to film this video instead. Quote
Geiko Posted December 3, 2011 at 10:31 PM Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 at 10:31 PM Thanks a lot for the information, jkhsu! You really shed some light on the matter. I specifically mentionned Asian people because I was thinking that most of Tsai's audience is probably from that continent, and therefore she doesn't mind filming the video in Hungary since "nobody" will notice.
