Help translating on a case given as a gift.

I believe it is a weapon case, but would like to find out what it actually goes to, any help appreciated. Thank you.

It's Japanese. I know very little about the Japanese language and even less about Japanese military weapons, but most likely it is the cover for this (Wikipedia link).

The first line says "machine gun cover", the second line is the model of the machine gun.

It's not Japanese. It says" 机铳复 九十九式二十耗一号旋回机铳二型改二用“ I've no idea what it is but it's definitely some kind of firearms

That's not 耗, it's 米 on the right - it's in unihan as lí, mm.

What makes you say that? Given that it's a Japanese firearm (as given in post #2, several days before you posted, so you should know what it is), and that Japanese and Chinese share a lot of characters (especially back 70 years ago, less so today), is there anything there that clearly identifies it as Chinese and not Japanese to you?
