Amdir_Flassion Posted January 10, 2005 at 10:58 AM Report Posted January 10, 2005 at 10:58 AM Of all places where the British colonised and marked their influence with, only Hong Kong has not taken on that great game we all love as cricket. In other places such as India, the West Indies, Australia and Sri Lanka, which all have been colonised by Britain before, how come it's only HK that never got on with cricket? Is it the same reason why the English language became more prevalent in India than in HK? Oh, btw, a good online cricket game is at www.stickcricket.com Quote
geraldc Posted January 10, 2005 at 12:00 PM Report Posted January 10, 2005 at 12:00 PM Canada, Scotland, Singapore and Ireland don't like cricket either. Cricket was invented by a bunch of bored shepherds to kill time. Any game that requires 5 days to be played at international level does suggest that the participants have nothing better to do. Seeing as the most important thing to most of my friends who play is the tea, it does suggest that it's really just an excuse to go somewhere different and eat sandwiches. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted January 11, 2005 at 02:11 AM Report Posted January 11, 2005 at 02:11 AM Why is anyone interested in such boring game as cricket in the first place? But no former British colonies have retained the hobby of horse racing as much as HKers do. And in terms of scale of operation (track size and betting amount), HK's far exceeds any of England's. And of course the annual World Rugby Tournament is still held in HK. And most likely you can hardly find as many diehard fans of Manchester United in Singapore, New Delhi, Sydney as in Hong Kong.
