aroberts42 Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:08 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:08 AM Hi everyone, I am in need of a Gynecologist and would prefer a Western trained one. Can any one reccommend one? I live in Changsha, but I doubt we have one here. I have heard there are some in Shanghai, but I can't find a listing for any. Worse case scenario, can anyone reccomend one in Hong Kong? And, this isn't for just routine check-up stuff that I could go to a Chinese gynecologist for, I might need a serious operation, hence my desire for a Western doctor who I can clearly communicate with. gato Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:14 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:14 AM You can try United Family Hospital in Shanghai. Many expats go there to give birth, so their gyn services might be decent. http://www.unitedfamilyhospitals.com/en/sh/facilities/medicalStaff/obsgyn/index.html Quote
Iriya Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:09 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:09 AM Try asking on the Shanghai Expat forum. Quote
daofeishi Posted December 23, 2011 at 05:05 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 05:05 AM If you feel you need treatment from western-trained doctors with top-notch equipment, I have heard only good things about the treatment people get at bumrungrad in Bangkok. People travel from all over Asia to get treated there. If you find nothing that satisfies your needs in China, try contacting them. Quote
xiaocai Posted December 23, 2011 at 05:41 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 05:41 AM Really? They go to Thailand instead of, like, Hong Kong or Singapore? Even China has a longer life expectancy than Thailand... Quote
deathtrap Posted December 23, 2011 at 06:15 AM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 06:15 AM @xiaocai There's a difference between average life expectancy for the entire population and of a select few with enough money to travel abroad for medical treatment. Quote
aroberts42 Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:26 PM Author Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 02:26 PM Hi everyone, thanks so much for the replies and helpful information. It really puts my mind at ease. Living here in China, we obviously have no health insurance back in the States so there is no way we could afford any surgery there, but if I mention to any one over there I was considering getting a surgery in China, talk about "omgurgonnadie!" responses! Thanks again so much, this is the best and most helpful group of expaits on the web! Quote
xiaocai Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:21 PM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:21 PM Well I believe the top and bottom levels of the system will be in accordance with the mean value in most cases. Quote
rezaf Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:57 PM Report Posted December 23, 2011 at 04:57 PM United Family or other good international hospitals in Shanghai are not cheap. I hope your insurance covers them. Quote
abcdefg Posted December 24, 2011 at 06:04 AM Report Posted December 24, 2011 at 06:04 AM Like @ daofeishi said, Bumrungrad in Bangkok is tops. It's not difficult to make appointments with them using the internet and the staff will be able to help you in English. I've had good personal experience with their care. Quote
