hiccup and burp in Chinese

Let's settle this once and for all - are there different words for "hiccup" and "burp" in Chinese?

I've often been told that they are both 打嗝 dǎgé.

If you look up the terms on Wikipedia, there are two different entries. But if you click on the respective Chinese entries for them, you are redirected to the 打嗝 page for both of the terms. My understanding is that they are quite different things in English, and presumably in medicine in general...

In spoken Chinese, yes, at least in my dialect. And in standard Mandarin, the technical term for hiccup is 呃逆 and for burp is 嗳气 if you want to be more specific. So yes, they are different to Chinese people, too.

I was told to differentiate like this:

打嗝 hiccup

打饱嗝 burp

...although I've never heard anyone say the second one.

Ah, that looks promising. There are even Baike entries available:

呃逆 (hiccup)

嗳气 (burping; belching)

Though I understand these terms a quite technical, and probably not used in conversation much, right?
