Word for "best friend" but like the strongest form of best friend...

Well.... Its been over a year since i last even visited the Chinese forums, sorry! I am currently in the process of translating a song for someone, and am looking for a certain word.

It is a noun that can be translated as best friend, but its a very strong friendship, like someone you would share everything with.

Nothing like 最好的朋友 or 好友，a special word.

That is really all I can remember about it. I heard it once in China, I am pretty sure it is 2 characters. If someone were to bring it back up here I bet I would remember it at once, its on the tip of my tongue.

闺蜜 perhaps? I've heard this term used in 男人帮 a few times but only between female friends.

闺蜜 is only used for a woman's best friend. If the 关系 between two women are very good, then they're 闺蜜. However, a woman's best friend may (theoritically at least) be male as well, he would be 男闺蜜 in this case.

There's a difference between 好朋友 and 好友, 好友 is usually only used in social networks, to refer to people on your 'friend list'.

Also, consider 密友.

Ah 闺蜜 is what i was looking for.... lriya I like your suggestion of trying 男闺蜜. I think this is exactly what I am looking for.

That remind me of another one, think it popped up in an episode of 奋斗. I want to say 铁磁, but could be 铁...something else.

闺蜜 sounds very girly to me, and adding 男 in front does not make it better, if not worse...

Re 閨蜜, it seems to me that it is a shortened form of 閨中密友. So I wonder if it shouldn't be written as 閨密 instead.

I wonder why, too. Maybe it is to make it sound more girly,

And if you are a guy, I think it is better to avoid using this word altogether unless it is intended to be funny in a feminine way, because guys normally are not raised in 闺中...

If you want to say a close male friend of a female, then consider 蓝颜知己.
